Assistant Controller

PURPOSE/OVERVIEW

We are seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented and experienced Assistant Controller to oversee our core accounting functions for a local home developer located in Bellevue, WA.  This role is responsible for leading a small accounting team, managing the daily operations, and supporting some of the treasury activities.  The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, including experience with cost accounting, a curious and growth mindset and the ability to manage and oversee all aspects of the accounting department.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Accounting Operations

  • Oversee and manage the daily operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable, general ledger, journal entries, reconciliations and month-end and year-end close.
  • Prepare financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance and support to ensure professional growth and development.
  • Maintain and improve accounting policies, procedures and internal controls.
  • Assist with audits and tax reporting.

Treasury & Cash Management

  • Monitor daily cash positions and ensure adequate liquidity across accounts.
  • Maintain relationships with banks and lenders, overseeing bank account activity.
  • Support cash forecasting and financing efforts.

Systems & Process Management

  • Maintain and oversee accounting systems and related tools.
  • Support improvements to accounting processes and system workflows.
  • Contribute to the implementation of a new ERP system as a functional lead, in collaboration with other teams.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field; MBA or CPA a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, with at least 2 years in a managerial role.
  • Must understand the principles and have prior experience in Work in Progress (WIP) and job costing.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

WORK CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
