Taking A Hike: A Local Park Guide

Did you know that the state of Washington boasts over 123,000 acres of parklands and 422 miles of hiking and biking trails?

No matter where you live in Washington, you'll have your choice of recreational parks and wilderness areas to enjoy. You can find everything from pristine old-growth forests to local dog parks just a short drive from home.

We will give you a run-down of some of our favorites, so keep reading to find your new favorite local park!

Tolt-MacDonald Park

Tolt-MacDonald Park is located in King County and is about one hour from downtown Seattle, Washington. A beautiful local state park with hundreds of acres of natural woodlands and rivers to explore. This park features many miles of trails and is especially popular with mountain bike enthusiasts.

Tambark Creek Park

Tambark Creek Park is a large local park in Snohomish County, close to the city of Mill Creek. It has a playground, walking paths, and an athletic field. For those of you with canine family members, this park also features an off-leash dog area.

Allan Yorke Park

Allan Yorke Park in Bonney Lake is especially popular with families during summer because of its beach area. There is swimming and boating on the lake, a playground area, sports courts, and walking trails. For your young skateboarders, Allan Yorke is also one of our free local skate parks!

Lake Fenwick Park

Lake Fenwick Park in Kent, Washington, is a wonderful local park for hiking with great views. Known for a relatively easy hike if you don't mind a stair climb! It also has a floating boardwalk, fishing, a disk golf course, and is dog friendly.

Lynndale Park

Nestled in the city of Lynnwood, Lynndale Park has just about everything a family could want from a local park. Combining acres of preserved native forest and developed recreation areas Lynndale has something for everyone. A forest amphitheater, fields for athletics, a skate park, nature walking trails, picnic areas, playgrounds, tennis courts, and even an off-leash dog area!

Foothills Trail

The Foothills Trail is a series of trails that run on what used to be the old Burlington Northern Railway line. These trails currently run about 30 miles in unconnected segments but there are plans to connect the sections. Some sections offer easy walks with beautiful views for families and some of the trails are paved, making them wheelchair accessible.

There are multiple different trail locations so check out the trail map to find the section of the trail you want to visit.
